RED CARPET-READY

Talk'OH! Tuesday

Written by Glenn Javier

Ever wondered what your favorite female athletes would look like when they're all glammed up? Apart from being a movie star, boob tube babe, influencer, or supermodel, women in sports also attract a lot of fame given that most sporting events, if not all, are already broadcasted online for everyone to see - well expect the pay-per-views. This is why athletes, both men, and women, are invited to red carpet events that were only exclusive to the film and television elites in the past.

I'm not a certified fashion police but I can definitely spot a good (and hot) look when I see one. Here are some of the best-dressed female athletes:

Alex Morgan — Soccer

Alexandra "Alex" Morgan Carrasco is an American professional soccer player for the Orlando Pride of the National Women's Soccer League, and the United States women's national soccer team. Although Morgan only began playing soccer at 14, she has, without a doubt, left her mark on the said sport. Not only did she become the youngest American player to score 20 goals in a single season but she also led her country to victory at the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Serena Williams — Tennis

If you don't know Serena Williams, you've probably been living without the Internet or have zero contact with the outside world. Serena Jameka Williams is an American professional tennis player and former world No. 1 in women's single tennis known for having won over 23 titles - the most of any player in the Open Era and the second-most of all-time behind Margaret Court. She is also known for her campaigns on body positivity and against racism.

Miesha Tate — MMA

Known in the ring as “Cupcake” and “Takedown,” Miesha Theresa Tate is a now-retired American mixed martial artist who competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship! Her career in wrestling started when she was still in high school and skyrocketed when she won the bantamweight championship of the Freestyle Cage fighting promotion in 2009 and the Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Championship. Tate also has experience in modeling for various websites and publications like ESPN.

Candace Parker — Basketball

Candace Nicole Parker is an American professional basketball player for the Chicago Sky of the Women's NBA. She has made a name in the industry and did not let herself be overshadowed by her older brother, former NBA star Anthony Parker. She was selected as the first overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks and from that point, there was no dulling her sparkle. Not only was she the first woman to dunk in an NCAA tournament game but Parker also won the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player award two times throughout her career.

Eugénie "Genie" Bouchard — Tennis

She's back on the list! Apart from Serena Williams, Bouchard is another female tennis player who has become a household name. Born and raised in Canada, she became the first Canadian-born player — representing her country— to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament in singles at the Wimbledon Championships. She also reached the semifinals of the 2014 Australian Open as well as the 2014 French Open. She was named WTA Newcomer of the Year at the end of the 2013 WTA Tour. Bouchard also knows how to strike a pose in a bikini, having graced the covers and pages of Sports Illustrated Swim!

Megan Rapinoe — Soccer

Born in California native, Megan Anna Rapinoe is an American professional soccer player and superstar who plays as a winger and captains OL Reign of the National Women's Soccer League, as well as the US national team. Named the Best FIFA Women’s Player in 2019, Rapinoe won gold with the national team at the 2012 London Summer Olympics as well as the 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Aside from a career in sports, Rapinoe is a co-founder of the lifestyle brand — re-inc. And did I mention that she's an out and proud lesbian who's married to Sue Bird!
