The 2021-22 regular season has been extremely memorable for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who won a franchise-record 50th game on Saturday. Their 4-2 victory over the New York Islanders put Sheldon Keefe’s team six points clear of the Tampa Bay Lightning for second in the Atlantic division with six games remaining. That triumph eclipsed their previous record of 49 wins in the 2017-18 campaign.
As they prepare to go into the postseason, there is a good chance that they may set more records before the playoffs begin. The Leafs currently hold a .697 points percentage this season, which tops the previous franchise mark of .688 in 2020-21 when there were only 56 games on the regular-season calendar. In their 104-year season history, no Toronto team has accumulated more points than this current squad, as their 106 points so far eclipse the 2017-18 mark by a single point.
Toronto is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and is currently positioned to have home-ice advantage in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Leafs are looking for their first Stanley Cup since the 1966-67 season when they defeated the Montreal Canadiens, four games to two in the finals.
