Kyle Shanahan and the Niners can rest easy knowing they’ve managed to rebuild a bridge with perhaps their biggest offensive weapon.

The San Francisco 49ers have signed All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a three-year contract extension worth a maximum of $73.5 million and $71.55 million total with 58.1 million in guaranteed wages.

Their second-round pick in 2019 out of South Carolina put up great numbers in the 2021 regular season, catching 77 passes for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns to go along with 59 carries for 365 yards and eight touchdowns.

This electrifying multi-purpose threat had an NFL-best 18.2 yards per catch last year, while also throwing a touchdown pass himself.

It was thought for a while that Samuel would be moving on from San Francisco when the 26-year-old requested a trade back in April, with the club receiving offers from other teams during the draft.

Since then, Samuel has slowly made his way back into the fold, taking part in the team’s full squad minicamp in June and reporting on time for training camp.

In three seasons in the league, Samuel has 167 receptions for 2,598 yards and 10 TDs through the air, plus 550 rushing yards and 11 major scores.
