Not even the return of Tom Brady could convince his favorite target to play another season in the NFL, at least not yet.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight-end Rob Gronkowski officially announced his retirement from football, thanking the Bucs for bringing him back in the process.
Gronk first called it quits in 2019 after nine seasons with Brady and the New England Patriots, before being talked into returning in 2020 to play in Tampa.
In their first season reunited, Gronkowski and Brady helped lead the Bucs to their second Super Bowl title, with the four-time All-Pro player catching two touchdown passes in the championship game, helping them upset the Kansas City Chiefs.
That was the fourth title for the 33-year-old in his NFL career.
Despite the announcement on Tuesday, there was a hint that he might not be done playing football for good.
Gronkowski’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said that it would not surprise him if Brady called Gronk to talk him out of retirement.
Brady retired himself earlier this year, before changing his mind weeks later.
For the time being Gronkowski ends his career with 621 catches for 9,286 yards, and 92 touchdowns in the regular season.
In the playoffs, he made 98 receptions for 1,3389 yards and 15 major scores.
