Jimmy Garoppolo will be staying in the City by the Bay after all.

On Monday, it was reported that the San Francisco 49ers and their starting quarterback last season have agreed to restructure his deal.

That means he will remain with the 2021-22 NFC finalists for at least another season with the freedom to leave in 2023.

The 30-year-old pivot who led San Fran to an appearance in Super LIV had been owed $24.2 million for this upcoming season as part of his previous contract.

His new deal will have a base value of $6.5 million, which could rise up to $16 million with incentives.

The product of Eastern Illinois was rumoured to be on the move to the Cleveland Browns following the news that Deshaun Watson will be suspended for the first 11 games of the regular season.

Garoppolo will enter his 10th NFL season, having thrown for 3,810 yards in the 2021 regular season on 301-for-441 passing with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

As a starting quarterback, “Jimmy G” is 33-14 for the Niners and New England Patriots, starting six playoff games and winning two Super Bowls as a backup to Tom Brady with the Pats.

San Francisco’s third overall pick at the 2021 NFL Draft, Trey Lance, has already been named the starting quarterback for this upcoming season with Garoppolo being given permission to seek a trade earlier this summer.

His new contract will include a no-trade and no-tag clause, ensuring Garoppolo will be with the Niners for the season.
